Deep Tissue & Remedial Massage

Remedial massage alleviates musculoskeletal issues commonly experienced as pain, discomfort, tension, stiffness, reduced strength, impaired function or lack of mobility. Predominantly using deep tissue work to achieve this, this style accesses the varying layers of soft tissue by using slow, firm pressure whilst working thoroughly into the problematic area.

My remedial work is a synthesis of all the disciplines and techniques I have trained in over the years and has become the specialism of my practice.

The rub!

  • The balance of each treatment works around you and can change each session. The focus of this work is to deal with an issue so you can expect each session to meaningfully address this, responding and adapting to what is found without glossing over the problem in some routine led manner.

  • Within a session, rather than adhere to one specific technique I will draw on whatever feels most appropriate to you, your needs, and in what I interpret from your body to meet the desired outcome

  • This approach is a targeted one so rarely would the full body be covered in one session, choosing to use time to slowly work into an area, identifying all the tension and restrictions without provoking the body to respond protectively.

  • In incidents where the body could not tolerate intensive work such as Fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s, post-cancer or other systemic conditions, then spreading the work over a larger area is offered.

  • Remedial massage works through layers of tissue to access tension, this does not rely solely on pressure. If you benefit from having firmer style massages, this can be met as long as it appropriately meets your body tissues. The purpose is to soften resistance found in the body, not antagonise it.

  • Every session will:

Address an issue with focus, connection and purposeful touch

Allow you the room to talk about your experience and your concerns

Identify what is there and what you need

  • Every session will:

Evaluate the tissue with clinical reasoning

Use different manual techniques to work different systems

    Give the opportunity for headspace

  • Every session will:

    Work with flow

Provide a way forward, if you need it

Deep Tissue 2

I have qualified in and gained experience of

  • Deep Tissue Massage

An intense style which takes time finding areas of tension, using trigger point work to hold and release soft tissue to reduce pain. Clients are more passive, receiving the treatment whilst being left to enjoy the headspace and connect with the work.

  • Sports & Remedial Massage

Which views the body as more structural and functional components with clinical assessment. Moderate intensity style, where assessments or tests may be used and the client may be actively involved with some of the techniques. Massage with joint motion is often combined.

  • Holistic Massage

This sees the body as integrative systems, and incorporates lifestyle, emotional/mental state and what you are subject to as equal components of your health.

  • Thai Yoga Massage

Eastern focused philosophy which looks at unblocking energy pathways and strengthening the mind-body connection through the means of acupressure, joint mobilisation and stretching.

  • Oncology Massage

Emphasising meaningful touch and promoting a view of wellbeing and supporting the immune system over a ‘fix it’ attitude.

What can remedial massage help with?

  • Counteracting the results of everyday life or habitual use from work and activities which has resulted in soft tissue tension, soreness, stiffness and reduced mobility. Regular application (such as once a month) is popular when dealing with these causes as your body is subject to them on a frequent basis.

  • I’ve had many different treatments and massages over the years and can honestly say that Mel gives one of the best deep tissue massages I’ve ever had. I never have to ask her to increase the pressure, she knows exactly what I need and is really helping me to work on my many problem areas.

  • Discovering Mel for her deep tissue massage services was a god send! I suffer from chronic pain in my shoulder from misusing my body to lift my toddler about!  I have been having a treatment monthly for much of 2016 and I can honestly say that less than a week before our next booking I am literally counting down to that appointment!  Why??

  • I’ve been seeing Melissa for a couple of months now; as a fibromyalgia sufferer I have an ever changing range of aches and pains which results in muscular tension which if not relieved becomes another pain to add to the list.

  • Mel is a fantastic massage therapist as she always thinks about her client’s needs. As someone who is self-conscious, I was nervous about getting a massage but Mel made me feel so comfortable and not at all wary of my body. She focused on what I wanted and what I needed from the massage.

  • My experience with Eudaimonia was really brilliant. I am not naturally comfortable with massages at all and find them quite uncomfortable and awkward if honest. Mel was really great at being personable/comforting and professional at the same time, as well making it really clear that if I was at all uncomfortable at any time that I was able to say so.

  • A massage is only truly relaxing when the surrounding environment and attention to detail are combined effectively with it. Mel has proved time and again that she delivers equally on all of these fronts for an all-round therapeutic experience.
