New in Crewkerne
In March, we relocated from Wokingham in Berkshire to here in Crewkerne, Somerset. Personally, this move gave my husband and I the opportunity to enjoy a period property with outdoor space, be close to the countryside, market town life, the coast, and be a part of a community. Professionally, nothing was lacking – I had started up my business in Wokingham and it had grown to be a fully established business with regular clients and a solid reputation, one built on consistently improving people’s health and reducing pain and symptoms. I was immensely proud of what I had achieved with my passion and little else as my guide, against a backdrop of my own health challenges and then a global pandemic.
Yet, like everything that you do day-in, day-out, it had become comfortable and familiar so when we identified that we wanted a change in our home life, this gave me an opportunity to experience different challenges in relocating and re-establishing a business and adapting to a different audience with their own needs.
In Wokingham, I was helping those who were commonly experiencing muscular pain and tension from their everyday lives. Often these were office workers, child carers, or manual labourers – the common theme was what their body was subjected to a demand each day which was accumulating, changing their posture, and taking its toll and they needed help to ease the pain, tension, stiffness or reduced mobility.
My practice deepened to include clients who were dealing with medical conditions, both localised and systemic, who were sustaining hits to their health as a result of their disease. I naturally found resonance here as a result of my own run-in with a chronic medical condition [now in remission] and through seeing that this is where the greatest gains to someone’s health could be made; this was the space where I could make the most difference and impact. Here is the difference between making someone feel relaxed for just that session or, giving them respite and relief from the pain and suffering they were enduring all the time, to go on to feel better and cope in the following days or weeks with hopefully some tangible improvements to their health. Conditions I commonly treated are symptoms from fibromyalgia, arthritis, cancer, scoliosis, endometriosis or reduced mobility from disabilities.
Since moving to Crewkerne, I not only have my own private practice but also work as an associate at the Chiropractic Care clinics in Yeovil and Beaminster. Working in the clinics and moving geographies has changed my demographic and my client base has expanded to include working more with joint issues and skeletal problems, post-stroke patients, more elderly clients, and running injuries and sports enthusiasts.
With only a few months in, I am still in a period of change and expanding my horizons and I am looking to build up my regular client base. I appreciate I no longer am in the commuter belt around London or that even, post-pandemic, people’s work lives look very different and that in moving here, I am not looking to replicate exactly what I had. In growing the breadth of my ‘typical’ client to include rehab and assisting in injury recovery there are different nuances. There is a different satisfaction to helping someone expedite their recovery and that it is complete, discrete and you’re only supporting them for a matter of weeks but I do thrive on establishing relationships and helping people cope consistently with the barriers and sharp edges that life throws at them. I regularly head back to Wokingham to treat clients I’ve seen for years because it’s mutually beneficial. I enjoy feeling a part of something bigger so if you feel that my approach very much aligns with what you need, please do not hesitate to get in contact! Hopefully see you soon.
Be well, Mel
